Maximizing Your Results

cost efficiency, featured, returns

It’s impossible to determine whether lowering costs or increasing revenue is more important across the board for all companies.

There are too many factors that can influence the answer for a given company, in a given market or in a given economy. A specific marketing focus may be the key to financial stability and steadily increasing profits.

It’s important to understand the basic metrics of profitability, such as the difference between profit and profit margin. Reducing costs or increasing revenue can add to a company’s bottom line – the net profit figure – but it may not improve the company’s net profit margin, the percentage of each dollar of revenue the company retains after subtracting all costs of doing business.

Consider a hypothetical company that increases annual revenue from $1 million to $2.2 million by increasing its sales staff from five to 15 people with an average salary of $100,000 each. The additional $1.2 million in revenue only results in $200,000 additional net profit and actually reduces profit margin by almost 20%. The company has to address the question of whether the lower profit margin is acceptable in return for the absolute dollar increase in profits, as the lower margin may not offer a sufficient financial cushion to insure the company’s continued viability. The company may have additional dollars in the bank, but it may be in a less healthy or less secure financial condition.

Reducing costs increases profitability, but only if sales price and number of sales remain constant. If cost reductions result in a lowering of the quality of the company products, then the company may be forced to reduce price to maintain the same level of sales. This can wipe out any potential gains and result in a net loss. A more negative impact may result over time from a gradual loss of market share as the reduction in quality makes it impossible to maintain sales figures. However, if a company can efficiently cut costs without affecting quality, sales price or sales figures, then that provides a path to higher profitability.

Another factor to consider is whether increasing revenues or significantly reducing costs is a viable option. A company may already be operating near maximum efficiency in terms of reducing costs, having negotiated the best possible prices for materials, personnel and facilities. In regard to increasing revenue, a company may be in a market that is so competitive, or an economy that is so depressed, that increasing sales numbers or raising prices are not realistic goals.

One strategy for increasing profitability through increased revenue is commanding higher prices through successful branding. Examples of such success are classic firms such as Coca-Cola or Sony, or high-end retailers such as Abercrombie & Fitch or Victoria’s Secret. These companies have established identities that enable them to command significantly higher prices than competitors while simultaneously increasing market share and maintaining that premium market status even in economic downturns. Focusing on quality and branding as the means to increasing revenues and solidifying a customer base may be a company’s surest path to long-term prosperity.

Our problem isn’t “Fake News”: Our real problems is “Manipulation”.

Fake News, Journalism, Media, Propaganda

Fake news

“Fake News” is merely a symptom of greater social ills. Our real problems are trust and manipulation.

Trust is the longer-term problem but, if we don’t grapple with the immediate and urgent problem of manipulation, our public and economical institutions may not live to reinvent themselves to earn the public’s trust back.

Today, our media, our tools, and our politics are being leveraged to help breed polarization by countless actors who can leverage these systems for personal, economic, and ideological gain.

In short: The public is being used.

The primary methods of manipulating information used by the mass media in the interests of information-psychological confrontation objectives are:

  • Direct lies for the purpose of disinformation;
  • Concealing critically important information;
  • Burying valuable information in a mass of information dross;
  • Terminological substitution: use of concepts and terms whose meaning is unclear or has undergone qualitative change, which makes it harder to form a true picture of events;
  • Introducing taboos on specific forms of information or categories of new;
  • Providing negative information, which is more readily accepted by the audience than positive.

More tactics:

Trolls and bots: are used to create a sense of public opinion so it is picked up by media. Journalists are harassed and intimidated, also by trolls and bots.

They exploit volume: When information volume is low, recipients tend to favor experts, but when information volume is high, recipients tend to favor information from other users.

And they exploit speed: It takes less time to make up facts than it does to verify them. And the first impression sets the agenda.

At the highest level, they attack truth: Whether from media or from official sources, multiple untruths are designed to undermine trust in the existence of objective truth.

Trolls and manipulators learn from each other.

Conspiracy theorists, techno-libertarians, white nationalists, Men’s Rights advocates, trolls, anti-feminists, anti-immigration activists, and bored young people, they all leverage both the techniques of participatory culture and the affordances of social media to spread their various beliefs and target vulnerabilities in the news media ecosystem to increase the visibility of and audience for their messages.

What ties them together is some measure of believes in some anarchistic philosophies such as anti-establishment, anti-multiculturalism, anti-globalism, anti-feminism, anti-Semitic, anti-political correctness, and nationalist and racist ideologies. But what mostly links them is their techniques. As trolls, they aim for reaction for reaction’s sake. They hack social media, media, and ultimately attention and democracy.

By getting the media to cover certain stories media manipulators are able to influence the public agenda. By reporting the messages of all the media manipulators, media become manipulators themselves.

So, WTF do we do?

Some will tackle falsehoods by fact-checking. Some will want to enhance the public’s critical thinking through so-called news literacy. Some will compile lists and signals of vice and virtues in sources.

Google, in its ranking, is now seeking and looking for the reliability, authority, and quality of sources while Facebook is killing the fake accounts used to mimic public conversation. This is fine, but rather than attacking the facts, sources, and accounts, we need to go after the real ill and evil: “Manipulation”.

We need to build public awareness. Instead of exploiting the fake news to promote their own financial interests, News media must recognize how and when they are the objects of manipulation. Not doing this, exploiting the fake news only to increase their sales and audience, they become accomplices of all these malevolent fake news propagandists. They become the trolls’ toys.

Instead of capitalizing on fake news, media should share intelligence. Major newsrooms should make sure to recognize manipulation before it affects news coverage and, regardless of profitability, communicate their findings with their counterparts wherever and whoever they are. Today, it is pitiful to see how some major brands staff war rooms are able to deal efficiently with fake news and disinformation attacks and not sharing the information with everybody else.

Instead of capitalizing on fake news, media should starve manipulators of their economic support by avoiding putting their money behind the bad guys through advertising, helping ad networks, agencies, and brands. Media, corporations and brands supporting and profiting fake news should be put in the spot, likewise for the publishers that distribute their bunkum and dross.

Manipulators should be starved of what they crave and feed upon: Attention.

I can hear journalists object that they have to cover what people are talking about. Bunkum! I say. Go FY! I say. The only reason why people are ending up talking about something is because a polluted wellspring of manipulation rose from a few ambitious bias, obsessive reporters and anchormen polluting the airwaves and pages of the newspapers. Isn’t it anything else to talk about other than biased, distorted news about Trump and fake news from wherever and whoever they originate from?

“Media, reporters and anchormen should cover the manipulators’ methods but never their messages!” This is what I say.

Writing A Post That Go Viral: The Secret Sauce

Blogging, Creativity, Going Viral

viral blog posts

“There is nothing new under the sun…. Just give your reader something to talk about.”

Save yourself some TIME and EFFORT

One of the worst mistake you can make as a writer is to believe everything you do has to be original. You can’t afford to spend months or years dreaming up a daring new approach for everything you write. A better way is to watch what is and has been working for everyone else and then creatively adapt it for your own purposes.

True genius is clothed in the ideas of others

There is nothing new under the sun. The author of The Holy Bible did not write anything you; they simply stole the plots of previous generations and cultures and adapted them to their own needs and reality. Shakespeare, to make it big, did not start from scratch; he simply spent a lot of time adapting and rewriting the content from the ancient Greek and Roman plays. Even Thomas has to plead guilty; he practically plagiarized the Declaration of Independence from John Locke.

More than often, the key to great writing is blatant and unrepentant theft; the best writers are often the best thieves.

None of those irresistible headlines you may see on the covers of the greatest magazines are new. The same is to be said about all of these blog posts that go viral. If you look carefully at any great headline, you can distill it down to some “Fill in The Blanks” templates that works for almost every topic you want to write about, whatever your niche and audience.

There is nothing new under the sun

Deal with the complexity of life looking at the headlines and great papers that have worked time and time again for some of the most popular authors and publications in the world.

Carefully consider what you read. There is nothing new under the sun. Everything has been said and written. While reading, consider every theme that is being exploited, stop at every headline and write down a few that you can adapt and use to suit your own needs either in your blogs, articles or book.

You want to go VIRAL?

You want to go viral, pay specific attention to one of the most successful headlines ever, the “Granddaddy of All Headlines”, the “HOW TO” headline that has been used for almost 100 years.

Why is that headline so powerful?

Only because most readers are naturally biased toward articles that help them do something. Ideas and opinions are great, but for most people, they have no lasting practical value. To really get their attention, they need an expert to show them how to apply those ideas in a practical way that applies to their specific situation.

This should be the premise, the foundation of all your writing.

If you are successful in teaching people useful, something that can save them TIME and MONEY, people will not resist reading you, clicking and buying your books.

Most people are not just interested in “WHAT TO DO”; they are also concerned with “WHAT TO BE” and “HOW TO BE” what they want to be. Most people are interested in reading about anything about HOW TO transform themselves in almost any way they can imagine and struggling to become.

By figuring out which traits your audience most desires and then putting them into your headlines, you will harness this natural curiosity people have in transforming themselves into something more, into something they are not, into something they aspire to become.

Most people do not want to settle for just being good. Most people aspire to be, to become the very best at what they do. They want to dominate their area of expertise. By recognizing this inherent desire of most people to “STAND OUT”, in every one of your headlines, they quickly move from a simple promise of help to an irresistible lure, especially if your headline is written in the form of a “LIST-BASED HEADLINE”.

Lists based headlines are a highly efficient way to organize the information you want to disseminate. People know exactly what they are getting into before starting reading and clicking. It is all about perception. A list based headline is approachable and nonthreatening.

Subconsciously, most people have this natural tendency to believe that most of the ideas or hints of an article will not work for them; but none of these people cannot resist the idea that maybe they may or will find one idea that will. The more ideas your article offers, the better the chance for them to find one that applies specifically to their situation.

Give your reader something to talk about

You want people to read your blog posts, your articles?

You need to make the readers curious. You need to use these power words and easy sounding list based headlines that will motivate the reader into checking out your blog post, your article or book.

Your headline shall be designed to harness the curiosity of the reader that is already there. Your blog, article or book shall give the reader something to talk about. It shall reflect the promise to satisfy their curiosity as well as give them something interesting to talk about.

Your blog, article or book shall offer comfort and reassurance. Especially when times are tough, people like to be confirmed in their opinion and, the prospect of spending time reading someone who understand their situation and offer some relief is strongly appealing.

Not belonging or feeling a part of something bigger than themselves is one of all people greatest fears. No one wants to be or stand alone. While opinions may be plentiful, it is always very difficult to resist a headline that presents an interesting take on a topic you care about.

Readers who will agree with you will click to validate their own ideas. The more skeptical readers will click and read your blog, article or book to find out if there is any weight in your claim. The more controversial or shocking your viewpoint or idea, the more people will want to find out whether you can make it stick.

Write to solve your reader’s problems, not yours

Most people these days are busy and when problems come along, they want to solve them as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Sometimes it is a problem you already know something or everything you know about. Other times people will raise problems you and many others like you are or were not aware of. Either way, offer your readers a fix to put this or these problems behind them, so they can get on with their day.

Any fix that will provide people with more TIME and save or make them MONEY is a winner. No one can resist such a headline that promises such results, and offer them a fix in the same breath. People will bookmark your blog post, they tell their friends about it, and retweet it and you can get traffic from it for years.

Write a great headline and “GO VIRAL”

You could write a post every day for a year and not even come close to exhausting all the possibilities of writing a great headline. Sometimes, the difference between a good headline and a great headline is only a well-chosen word dropped in exactly the right place.

Just add a little interest in your headline by simply adding a power word to your title, power words, powerful adjectives that will add strong emotions to your heading, emotions like anger, excitement, disgust and desire, thereby setting it apart from those that have come before.

Stop The Bunkum And Create A Real Business

Building a real business, bunkumless.com, Growth, Profitability

Profitability

“Owning Your Destiny” is an incredibly powerful concept anywhere else but in the world of startups.”

Instead of focusing solely on growth, chart a path to profitability

As a startup, rather than buying into the idea that you have to use your first decade to build your audience, collect your data, or lock in your customer, figure out how to make money from day one.

Building a “Real Business” from the beginning

Real businesses make products and sell them for a profit. Real businesses provide services for a profit.

Real businesses focus on customer’s acquisition, revenue and profitability, not investors, valuations and the next fundable milestone.

Real businesses prioritize their customer’s needs over their customer’s eyeballs. They have a functioning business model, not a believable financial model.

Real businesses want to stay in business, not run for the exit

Real businesses create their own source of funding and do not have to ask anyone for permission to exist.

Scaling a business through happy customers and increasing revenues and profitability is no harder than breaking the addiction of spending money.

Most startups bleed red, real businesses bleed black. Stop the Bunkum, stop the nonsense and look for a profitable customer now.

It is up to you to make it happen now!

Bunkumless.com: The best thing since the invention of the time machine

Since 2012, I have personally typed and carefully went through every single email I sent. I sent thousands of emails, resulting in an 18% sent-to-publication success rate. There was and there is still no miracles here, only painful experiences, hard work. blood, sweat and tears.

During my first few weeks I made sure to carefully note every email I sent, every response I received and whether it led to a successful new acquisition or not. For every five emails I sent, I would get one new subscription.

Over the next year and a half, I would continue sending about five hundred emails a week that, resulted in 150,000 visits to my client’s blogs and websites. The conversion rate averaging 40%, this eventually led to a total of 60,000 new subscribers.

You want to achieve the same results?

There are two options:

Option 1: You click here to hire me;

Option 2: You do your homework.

You decided to do your homework!

This is a full-time job and here is what you need to do to drive thousands of signups for your business:

  1. Do your research

Before ever sending out your first emails or answering any emails you may receive, you need to research the people, the persons you are talking or want to talk to:

Google their name; read their work online; bookmark some of their great pieces of work; scroll through their social profiles; learn about what makes them tick, what annoy them or makes them angry; check their political affiliation, how they feel about important social topics and their opinions on the subjects.

This research will help you learn what they are interested in and what they are most likely to notice in a conversation. Use this information wisely and in a timely manner. This being done, look to attract media attention.

  1. Make yourself familiar

You are now ready to procced with your first email campaign. There is a reason why it is called “Cold Email”. It is your first contact with people who know little or nothing about you. Unfortunately, people tend to like places, things and people they are familiar with and ignore unfamiliar people and novelties.

Before sending an email, make sure to devise a way to get your contact to remember your name or the name of your product or service. Before sending your emails, follow your prospective contacts on social media. Try interacting with them and see how it goes. Contact them after a big change or success in their life. A quick “congrats” or “Happy Birthday” will go a long way.

  1. Personalize your emails

Most people can immediately spot a mass email and are quick to discard it. In your email to strangers and prospective customers or clients, make sure you mention their name, their product/service or the name of their company. Write and tell them about why they are special to you and what made them stand out among many others.

  1. Find something you have in common

Never send an email before finding at least one thing you have in common with the person or the business you are reaching out to. Finding something in common with people you are trying to talk to makes you more likable and familiar to them.

  1. Strike a conversation

People love being asked questions and talk about themselves. Make sure you hit the right topic and they will not be able to resist replying. Whoever you want to talk to, learn enough about these persons to figure out what gets them excited. Strike and make sure to maintain a conversation about it.

  1. Use emotional hooks

Like for “Cold Calls” using “emotional hooks” in a cold emailing takes a few smart adjustments but when done properly, they are incredibly effective and produce amazing results. One of the most basic emotions is “Desire”. If your prospects are truly motivated, if they have “Desire”, if only for one of your products or services, then they will feel connected to you. And the more they desire, the more interesting you and what you have to offer become.

  1. Make it short and simple

The ideal length of a Public Relations or Marketing pitch always has been two to three paragraphs. Apply this simple rule to every cold email you send. Avoid overselling, getting lost in long pitches or overwhelming your reader with too much info. Avoid alienating your readers: go straight to the point.

Think about what you want to say, the message you have to convey. Stay focus. Focus on the main point of your email and edit out all unnecessary parts. Assign a goal to your email and then, to each sentence. This being done, edit out all the sentences that do not support the main goal of your email.

  1. Make your email about them, not you

Focusing on yourself and the points you are trying to bring up, focusing mainly on the benefits of your products or services is a mistake. Your email will not be relevant to anyone, to any person unless you focus on them.

Make your email everything about your contact, your prospective customer, not you. People love to talk and hear about themselves. Use this petty human characteristic against your reader and start with focusing on them and only them.

  1. Check the clock

Before sending any email, double check the time zone of your prospects, of your targeted audience and schedule the release of your emails to reach them while they are at work and still focused enough. 5:00 P.M. is not a good time.

Mornings are best, but not too early. Tend to aim at 11 A.M. deliveries.

If you want them to notice you, be respectful of your prospects’ time and make sure your email is still relevant. The perfect pitch is timely, relevant, personal and intriguing enough to get a conversation started.

  1. Follow up

Follow-ups get 30% higher response rates than first emails.

Make sure to follow up by writing a quick email acknowledging how busy and important your contacts are while politely asking them to consider your email one more time.

One last word

Again, all of this is time consuming and if you don’t have the right tools, this will fast become a full-time job.

If you do not have the time, I can do it for you.
