What is wrong with you people; can’t you read the signs?
The final countdown | by: Michel Ouellette JMD

Climate change and poor planning are worsening the toll in lives and money that natural disasters wreak worldwide.

Natural disasters and climatic changes around the world are claiming more and more lives and costing billions of dollars in damage; not because their intrinsic nature, but only because of our poor judgment and planning.

Natural disasters, cataclysmic events and poor weather always have been and always will be. When there were only a few thousand or million people on earth, there were no highways, no high-rises, no infrastructures, no power plants, very few to kill and almost nothing to destroy. There were no medias.

Today, according to the United Nations experts, the direct economic cost of all disasters that happened since 2000 is estimated to roughly $1.4 trillion; the total price tag on people’s livelihoods and the wider economy having never fully been counted. Japan’s earthquake and tsunami of 2011 was probably the most costly natural disaster in history. Superstorm Sandy cost the United States more than $50 billion. , Following the unprecedented Russian summer of 2010 when heat waves claimed 55,000 lives, record wildfires burned through millions of acres of forest. The same thing happened both in The United States and Australia.

The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reported last year that droughts and heat waves are growing harsher and longer in many regions, causing deaths, fires and crop failure. When rain does come, it is often more intense, causing flooding and landslides. Meanwhile, rising sea levels increase the height and damage potential of storm surges in coastal areas.

If we can predict and forecast all of this, why don’t we act accordingly?

In 2005, the Hyogo Framework for Action was adopted to encourage countries to become more resilient in the face of natural disasters. But the Global Assessment Report reveals that efforts have had limited success so far. 121 countries have passed legislation for reducing disaster risks since 2005, and more than half of the governments have made substantial progress in assessing and monitoring the risks their people face. But this has had no discernible effect on disaster losses, which continue to stack up around the world.

Don’t blame any God, blame yourself

So far, each step towards a global framework for addressing disasters has been framed by massive natural events. The Hyogo Framework was established in Kobe, Japan, as bodies were still being recovered from the Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004. The recent disasters casting shadows on this year’s event brought greater attention to the likelihood that climate change is worsening the intensity of weather events. Other than climate change, reckless urban development, the exploitation of groundwater, and deforestation are increasing the likelihood of disasters large and small, and weaken the resilience of communities to withstand them. The Global Assessment Report highlighted that many people suffering the worst effects of climate disasters are not the ones contributing to them.

Dumber and Dumber

Keep on building and living in the path of volcanoes, tsunamis and super storms. Yes, this view on the ocean, on the lake, on the river, on the mountain is beautiful. What the heck, I have insurances.

Sorry, I can’t say it better than Amy
The final countdown | by: Michel Ouellette JMD

“If You Want to Improve, Stop Defending and Start Listening”

To grow and improve is a desire that most all of us share. Yet, in order to grow and improve we must first be willing to acknowledge our areas of weakness; we must accept who we are. Stop defending and start listening; feedback is the quickest way to learn about our weaknesses. Knowing our weaknesses is the most important step in overcoming them.

When a person’s views, ideas, or behaviors are threatened, any suggestion that conflicts with their idea or behavior can send a person into defensive mode and they are unable to take in much new information as they become solely focused on defending their position. They will deny, make excuses, challenge, rationalize, explain, justify, blame, avoid, withdraw, or go on the attack. To a person on the defense, any new knowledge feels threatening and they are unable to see any side but their own.

Given that our desire is to grow and improve, it is imperative to take steps to avoid this type of response. The most important element in avoiding it is to listen. Our ability to form healthy relationships with others is a direct result of our ability to listen well. Sometimes when hearing feedback, we must force ourselves to take a deep breath, or, if necessary, ask to be excused for a moment so you might step away and regain our composure. Then we can return with a clear head, ready to actively listen.

Be careful not to expect everyone to see things exactly the same way you do. One of the best things about diversity of thought is that it helps us to view things from different perspectives, so welcome the opportunity to expand your horizons. If, while receiving feedback, you are feeling attacked, feel comfortable to express you are feeling that way in a calm and respectful tone. Look for areas you can agree with them.

If you truly can’t find any points to agree with then ask for specific examples in a way to show that you have a genuine desire to better understand their point of view. Be quick to apologize when you should. Stay on topic. Don’t use the conversation as a way to start bringing up your own grievances that are unrelated to the current discussion.

After hearing the other person out with an open mind, if you are still struggling with their point of view, simply thank them for sharing their views with you and let them know that you genuinely want to take time to ponder what they have said, stating that you will come back to them after you have given it more thought.

When someone is willing to take the time to give you constructive feedback, listen. Truly confident people are able to listen respectfully to other perspectives, then to genuinely consider and evaluate if there is truth in what others are saying. They are able to do it without the feeling that other perspectives are in any way diminishing their own.

This is today’s way and the way of tomorrow: if you want to improve your situation, to improve yourself, stop defending and start listening.

Rape protest

Castrate them and hang them!
The final countdown | by: Michel Ouellette JMD

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/asia/2014/01/indian-rape-victim-under-police-protection-201412691939228509.html

Woman allegedly attacked as “punishment” to be relocated after being shunned by villagers, says state politician.

This is great, what a bunch of ass-holes and degenerates!

Now we have to protect the victim of rapes; the victim is victimized because she has been raped?

Women, buy yourself a gun and shoot the bastards! No, Buy yourself a rusted knife and castrate the bastards and, don’t trust or rely on these policemen to protect you; they are probably rapists themselves.

Ladies, wake up!

Your men are no men, they are beasts with no balls and no brain; they are big walking penises looking to rape anything women, child or young girl walking on the street; stay away of them and away of anyone that fraternized with them.

They are out there to abuse you. If not for you, do it for your children.

Note:

This is not a professional statement this is an absolutely emotional one.

This is not so often that I formulate so harsh comments; usually, I am quite Zen. But this is absolutely and totally unacceptable in whatever society of today’s world and whoever endorse or tolerate such a situation or participate in such in abomination shall be considered a rapist himself or herself and be burned alive on the public place.

Definitely to be continued… and I dare you ….

Creating something new, The Final Countdown, Tomorrow starts today

open-book

Rewrite the book!
The final countdown | by: Michel Ouellette JMD

There is one thing you can do to make your life substantially easier when it comes to creating something new.

Begin by “just” taking a small step toward your goal, whatever that goal is, and then pause to see what happens. If you get a positive reaction, take another small step. If you get a negative response, stop and think about what you have learned. Then build that learning in the next small step you take.

Always remember, if you want something to happen, you need to get started by taking that first small step, however scary it might be.

Start now, tomorrow starts today

no-excuses

Always so many excuses
The final countdown | by: Michel Ouellette JMD

Change is not only difficult; it is often really scary.

There is always a natural inclination to want to delay beginning for as long as possible. No one wants to fail or look silly and the easiest way to avoid failure or to look silly is to never try or start anything, chiefly anything new.

All the excuses are good: no money; no approval and more than often, the universal excuse, life is getting in the way; sorry, no time. Because of all these excuses or whatever, one will decide that it is better to wait, to delay the project, to postpone it to tomorrow. All these reasons and excuses, I truly believe that you truly believe that they are very much valid. But quite frankly, I don’t think they matter. What I really think is that you are bullshitting both of us, yourself and myself.

Either you want to make it or you don’t.

If you really want to make it, if you really want to reinvent yourself, if you really want to empower yourself, if you really want to start something new, if you really want to create this better future for yourself, for your family, for the people you care about, you will. Nothing will stop you, nothing will frighten you, and nothing will scare you away.

When you fall off out the boat into the ocean, what do you say: “Oh my God! This is so cold, this is so scary, this is so difficult, my mother told me; I think I shall wait for tomorrow, for a better day to start doing it”?

I am telling you my friends, start swimming now; Tomorrow Starts Today.

200 Million+ Unemployed Worldwide

Youth-Unemployment

Mostly affected, the fifteen | twenty-four.
The final countdown | by: Michel Ouellette JMD

Unemployed: “A person without any kind of willpower, lacking proper training, proper education, without extraordinary physical or technical ability and absolutely no exceptional social skills.”

According to the United Nations’ Labor Agency, with new job opportunities not growing fast enough to absorb a growing global workforce, the number of unemployed people around the world reached an estimated 201.8 million people in 2013, a number that is most likely to increase by another 4.2 million in 2014.

In the years to come, labor may soon enough give way to frank unemployment. Everywhere in the world, we can already see such a long-term trend towards joblessness profiling at the horizon. There are definite indications that exactly like for manual and physical jobs that have been eradicated by technical advances, more and more regulated occupational jobs such as accountancy, legal work, technical writing are now at risk of being automated. This is more worrying than many economists; politicians and scholars are prepared to admit.

For whoever does not have the proper skills, to meet the demand and the curriculum of the jobs of the future, there is not much hope. For anyone who wants to make it tomorrow, it is now time to start surfing on the wave, to take a quantum leap toward the next one and to prepare for the unexpected.

And … whatever you decide to do, just make sure to know the right people.

Bullshit Jobs, Employment, Workplace

When the sleeper awakens
The final countdown | by: Michel Ouellette JMD

Previous technological innovation has always delivered more long-run employment, not less. But this can change.

Today, across the richest nations, all is far from glowing in the workplace. While the cost of living is still forever going up, the wages of the typical middle and lower class worker are stagnant. In Americas the wages have hardly budged over the past four decades. In countries like Britain and Germany, wages have been flat for over a decade now. Even in relatively egalitarian places like Sweden, inequality among the employed has risen sharply. For most of the people of the world, even if their wages have increased substantially, their buying power went down drastically. Today, for most of the workforce, we are not in a better position than almost one hundred years ago.

For anybody who is not part of the élite, much of modern labour consists of “Bullshit Low Paid Jobs”. It is something the ruling class does to keep control over the lives of others.

This is Your Choice
The final countdown | by: Michel Ouellette JMD

We are now at a point in history where we, each one of us as an individual, will have to choose: to choose between empowering himself or to remain dependent; to face our true self, or to continue fighting ghosts; to heal ourselves, or allow ourselves to be eaten alive; to Live or to Die.

Better yourself and you will be bettering the world.
