When the “Shit Hits the Fan”… Fight Back!

Fighting back

Sometimes, life is a very painful learning process.

I know you have been through this, we have all been.

You are peacefully minding your own business, things are going on smoothly and then, out of nothing, out of nowhere, something incredibly bad happens, something incredibly wrong happens: shit hits the fan.

Shit happens, shit storms happen, these predictable or sometimes unpredictable crisis situations that turns really bad leaving you without any immediate perceivable options or way out and making your life miserable, turning your life or having the potential to turn your life into a possible nightmare.

Well, like many of you I have been there and not only once. Many times, in the past, I went through something, through situations that may qualify or may have been perceived by many as a “Shit Storm”. Yes, I did, and yes, I did survive these situations. How did I cope with these potentially disastrous situations? Here is how I did, and how you do it.

First, let me tell you about my last shit storm that happened a few years ago.

What happened

Well, a mix of bad luck, tiredness and just plain strange stuff. First, during a routine medical exam to schedule a knee replacement surgery, I found out that I had a stage four colon cancer and if I was not to do anything to do about it, I had only two months to live.

Like it was not enough, at the same time, my corporation lost a multi-million dollars to the competition and the work unit in charge of this account had to be dismantled leaving me with absolutely no future income.

At home, things were going really bad. The radiation and chemo treatment was definitely affecting my libido and sex life. Not that I did really personally care about that, but this situation was definitely impacting on my conjugal situation and relationship.

In other words, I was having this major “The Shit Hits The Fan”, this “Shit Storm” experience.

What about now?

All of that happened a few years ago. I was under an incredible amount of pressure. While my life partner turned into a total “Nut Case”, I took the bull by the horns and survive the shit storm.

Today, everything is for the best in the best of the worlds.

What follows is, for your own benefit, an attempt to formalize my personal experience in fighting an “Unpredictable” crisis situation and how to survive it, whatever your situation may be, however desperate you may feel.

1.- Assess the situation, do not stress

It is very easy to give in to panic when something goes wrong. Instead, focus on what is happening. When you immerse yourself into an Analysis and Systemic Thinking Process, something very interesting happens. Your adrenaline rush is no longer directed into a “Fight or Flight” mode anymore. When you are facing a crisis, your reactions are following only two possible patterns: Fight or Flight, Give-up or face the situation and do something about it.

Either way, we are talking about stress.

Stress, as dangerous as it may be, does have this incredible feature: It gives you access to a tremendous source of energy.  It releases a lot of energy that you can decide to either block or harness. You can either decide to stress and give up or, decide to transform this adrenaline rush, this stress energy that you are experiencing, into working energy allowing you to fix any situation that you may encounter or may be facing.

2.- Decide on what you want to do

As soon as you realize what is going wrong, as soon as you have to face the situation, the “Shit Storm”, start to plan.

Thing systemically and strategically.

Ask yourself: What is it that needs to be done ASAP? What is it that I can do now? How is this going to impact my life? How is this, whatever I decide to do, going to impact any other aspect either of my personal or professional life? How much time do I have to react?

After gathering all the data, start to play with all the possible solutions; make this part of  the decision-making process. Just remember that some of the things that you may have to do, some of the possible fixes, may not be that visible at first. Our ability to identify and follow up decisions during a crisis is drastically affected.

Despite that, it is vital to step back and choose the best possible solution and the best possible and available fixes. Even in a very dangerous  and/or complex situation, there are always many more options than the “Fight or Flight” solution.

Yes, there is always this urge to run away from the place of the crisis, hoping that a change in context will also change the facts but, unless a building is crashing on you or a bus is going to run over you, running away is never the best option.

Avoidance is never the best solution.

It takes a while and some courage to turn your face toward the fan and take all the shit coming at you upfront. But it is the only viable solution. To prepare and plan an escape plan, to determine a possible direction to go or what you have to do, first, you have to know where the “Shit” is really coming from.

If you do not face the crisis and its causes, there is no way out. You will never be able the reverse the odds in your favor and to survive the situation. You may get away for a while if you run away, but each time you will get back to that place, there may be a different day, but you will be facing the same old fucking shit.

3.- Communicate

Nothing is happening just by itself.

There is no such a thing like a “Black Box” of our life events, something completely inaccessible. Information is always there to reach for it. Believe me, all possible answers to any situation that you may have to face reside within yourself. The only thing you have to do, the only thing you want to do is to reach for that information.

Each time you have to face a crisis, try to communicate. First, acknowledge the situation and then try to communicate with people who know you, people that may help you assess the overall situation. Seek personal and professional advice, get as much intel as you can. Most of the time, people will actually appreciate the fact that you are reaching to them and you can always benefit from their insight and assistance.

Every crisis has the potential to reveal something about you or the others that you were not aware of. As long as you stay on track and communicate, as long as you do not isolate yourself in a “I Know Better” pattern, there is always hope to find the most appropriate solution to the crisis that you may be facing. One more thing: if there are other persons involved in your crisis, try to also understand their point of view.

4.- Rebuild carefully, very carefully

Now that you have fully assessed the situation and possible solutions, now that you effectively communicate your intentions and gathered all the intelligence available, it is now time to strategically and systematically rebuild whatever is to be rebuilt.

You do not want to create or having to go through another “Shit Storm”.

The worse already happened. Why should you worry now? Just sit down and carefully review and test all the data you collected. The emphasis here is on “Carefully” not so much on “Rebuild”. You have to rebuild anyway, but just do it very carefully.

What you do not want to do is to fall back into your old patterns. Unless it is genetic, hereditary, climatic or otherwise driven by the laws of nature, nothing on earth is unpredictable.

Disasters can always be either avoided or prevented.

When you thing your systemically and plan your life strategically, nothing bad can happen to you. Personal and professional crisis and disasters can always be forecast, avoided and prevented. When going through a major crisis, it is very important to realize that you did yourself as much harm as you could have done already and that there is no need to augment on that. Just pay very close and careful attention to what you are doing and things will start to straighten up.

Again, when we are under pressure, we have this huge urge to speed up. Well, speed up, if you have to, but do it carefully, very carefully. You do not want to repeat your mistakes of the past. You do not want to go through another “Shit Storm”. Accept the current disaster and focus on avoiding the next potential one.

One final word

Most of the time, life is a painful learning process. We learn more from our failures than from our successes. We remember the dangerous and hurtful events much better than the happy events. This is an inherited pattern that is wired into the survivals patterns of all animal forms including mankind.

This is how, as a general rule, all animal life forms avoid dangerous and deadly situations. As history is telling us: Only humans are stupid enough to repeat over and over the same mistakes.

Building Brand Loyalty

Building loyalty does not happen overnight, though, nor can it be done in too obvious a way. Brands should understand the long game and truly appreciate that retaining a customer takes effort and investment. This cost will always be lower than the cost of acquiring a new customer.

Every company, big or small, should understand a simple fact that applies to all businesses: If a customer or client is willing to spend money on your product or service once, they’ll likely be willing to do it again. Your job is simply to keep them loyal.

A Solid Foundation

First and foremost, you need to deliver on the first purchase or experience, as this creates the foundation of the relationship. But once you’ve crossed that threshold, you can deepen loyalty, which can directly translate into repeat purchasing.

With the pandemic limiting in-person interactions, building loyalty was challenging, and supply-chain issues ensured that in many industries, demand was far exceeding supply. For these reasons and others, many brands abandoned their relationship-building efforts. Today, those brands that are reigniting their programs are gaining a massive advantage over their competitors.

Creating A Connection

While it might seem that customer connection initiatives would be impossible for small businesses to implement, there is always a way to create a connection, whether you’re a Fortune 500 company or a neighborhood family business.

Today, most consumers expect companies to deliver personalized interactions and get frustrated when this does not happen. I personally experienced this recently at a restaurant I visited with my business partner in Kingston. I had an excellent dining experience, but what was most impressive was what happened the next day.

The morning after my visit, I received an email from the general manager thanking me for joining them, offering me to contact him directly for my next reservation.

It may not have been the general manager himself sending this personal note, but regardless of who was behind it, the effect was the same, and it would pay off for the restaurant, as within days, I had already booked myself and some of my staff members for a business lunch.

The Value Of In-Person Interaction

Today, it is a known fact that personalization can deliver five to eight times the ROI on marketing spend and can lift sales by 10% or more.

Today, to succeed in this highly competitive consumer environment, companies and businesses should make relationship-building a key strategic pillar of their sales and marketing efforts, especially as consumers are looking to learn more about and interact more personally with brands.

Those that do will be setting the foundation for long-term loyalty. They will also have a step up on their competitors when it comes to customer retention, not to mention a direct line to their customers’ wallets.

There Is Always a Way!

There is always a way. This is your choice: you either give up or find a way.

That’s a motivational perspective! It highlights the importance of determination and problem-solving in the face of challenges. When faced with difficulties, it’s essential to stay resilient, adapt, and keep searching for solutions rather than giving up. This mindset can help individuals overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. Remember, perseverance and creativity often lead to finding unexpected ways to overcome obstacles.

White Man Under Attack

What’s wrong with the Straight White Race People?

“The key to solving the social
problems of our time is to abolish the White race. If you are a White male, you
don’t deserve to live. You are a cancer. You should kill yourself. It’s the
right thing to do.”

Noel Ignatiev, Jewish Marxist / Harvard
PHD

Today, other than all this commotion Donald Trump, mass killings and the war in Ukraine, the only things we read and hear about every day is this outcry about, women rights, native rights, LGBT rights, minorities of all color rights, Muslims rights and so on and so on, all these people blaming the White Straight Man for their misery.

The past five decades have not been very kind to the white straight man. Until the 1960s, the white straight man comfortably sat unchallenged atop the cultural and economic pyramid. He did not have to deal with all these disgruntled people and minorities that we read about and listen complaining every day about their despair and misery.

Today, like it or not, disgruntled people and minorities are everywhere, complaining, blaming, and accusing the White Race about anything and everything. If White Straight People do not agree with their condition, their way of life, their vision of the future, they are conveniently labeled as racist, homophobic, misogynist individuals and personalities.

Today, the White Straight Man, being guilty as charged and condemned without a fair trial and lynched on the public place, is no longer included in anything, and no longer part of the conversation. His right to speak does no longer exist. Unsuccessful, disgruntled, frustrated, depraved people of every minority confronted with the power structure are now
challenging all laws and institutions that they wrongly believe that are confining them to traditional roles in the private sphere. Instead of empowering themselves by doing what would right to do, sticking to their guns, unsuccessful, disgruntled, frustrated, depraved people of all minorities are now questioning traditional conceptions of gender and sexuality.

All these so-called “rights movements” that we see today, instead of promoting and building a fairer, more diverse society and rectifying all possible wrongs that may have happened in the past are only successful in creating more opposition, more animosity, and more violence as a direct assault on the well-established moral values of a world global silent community that believe in a better world and rightfully condemned all immoral
values.

Today grievance defined the targets of the frustrated minorities. They battle against liberal academics and politicians by stressing multiculturalism and celebrating the contribution of minorities while distorting and minimizing the achievements of white men. As for the White Straight Man, both man and female, they silently fume about companies and schools giving preference to less-qualified people and minorities in an effort to achieve greater diversity.

For the White Straight Man, male and female, it is time to react, it is time to fight back. We are told that we live in a democracy, where everyone has the same rights, the same opportunities.

Reality Check!

We now live in a democracy where the White Straight Man no longer benefit of the Freedom of Speech right. We now live in a democracy where the White Straight Man, to get a job, shall indicate on his or her résumé that he or she is part of a minority group or a member of the LGBT community.

As far as I am concerned, we do live in a democracy, where everyone has
the same opportunities, and we need to move on. If the fact that you are a
woman, black or gay is what defines you, you have a problem, not me.

Twelve Reasons to Hire a Freelancer

The market of work is evolving. Millions of businesses worldwide are shifting away from traditional employment and hiring freelancers. Skilled freelance talent helps these businesses unlock their potential by solving complex problems, getting more work done, and completing projects faster.

If your business is debating hiring a freelancer rather than a full-time employee, you may be interested to learn that freelancers can bring a variety of benefits to your business. Freelancers present an opportunity for short-term, long-term, and highly skilled technical projects.

Why are more companies hiring freelancers?

There are many reasons companies are revaluating “business as usual” and turning to freelancers rather than hiring full-time staff. First, the recent pandemic caused one of the most significant shifts in hiring practices as traditional businesses were forced to adapt and change. Business owners and managers recognized that their workforce no longer needed to sit at a desk in an office from nine-to-five to be successful. The rise in remote workers, online collaboration tools, video conferencing, and talented workers dispersed around the globe has led many businesses to hire more freelancers.

At the same time, there has been a shift in how the world views freelancers and contract employees. Freelancers are increasingly seen as highly skilled professionals with valuable abilities that businesses need.

Below is a list of 12 reasons why more companies are hiring freelancers:

1) Cost savings

Traditional full-time employees are expensive. In addition to paying their salary, business owners are responsible for training costs, benefits, health insurance, paid time-off, and payroll taxes. In contrast, hiring a freelancer allows your business to eliminate many of these overhead costs. Freelancers don’t require a dedicated workspace in your office or training. Hiring a freelancer allows a business to reduce costs without sacrificing work output.

2) Access to specialized talent

Talented freelancers offer expertise that businesses can tap into with ease. If your business requires a specific skillset for a project, you can identify a freelancer that has spent years perfecting that same craft. The more experienced a freelancer is, the more value they can bring to a project. The business can benefit from the freelancer’s experience without devoting internal resources or adding a permanent position to their payroll.

3) High-quality work

Freelancers can deliver consistently high-quality work due to their range of experience. Before hiring a freelancer, you’ll have an opportunity to evaluate their past work portfolio, check out reviews from clients, and interview them to make sure they are the right fit. Since freelancers are often competing for projects, you can look for those who will give your project the attention and quality your company needs. By successfully completing your project, freelancers build their reputation, expand their portfolio, and increase their chance of future employment or referrals.

4) Faster deliverables

In addition to offering quality work, freelancers can often provide faster deliverables than full-time employees, and more quickly and accurately. Generally, full-time employees are tasked with multiple projects simultaneously. This often slows down projects and causes delays. In contrast, freelancers generally focus on one project at a time or work within shorter timeframes, which results in increased efficiency and faster project completion.

5) Larger talent pool

When hiring a full-time employee, companies are usually restricted to the area in which their business operates. By opening the opportunity to freelancers, companies can access a larger talent pool from around the world, which allows companies to find the specific talent, qualifications, and skills they require without settling for the best available person in their immediate area.

6) Company risk reduction

When you hire a full-time employee, you invest in that individual’s future with the company. Training and onboarding them costs money and time, which generally involves some risk. Rather than losing that investment if the employee decides to leave the company, working with a freelancer allows you to build a contract with specific deliverables before payment. Working with a freelancer also reduces the risk as you can make changes without impacting your internal processes.

7) No long-term commitment

When you hire a full-time employee, you’re now responsible for that individual’s livelihood, and they are expecting to have long-term job security. Freelancers can be hired for a short-term project, for a set amount of time, or to help with long-term projects with specific deliverables. This lack of a long-term commitment affords companies greater flexibility when hiring freelancers.

8) Ease of finding, hiring, and onboarding

According to a recent freelancing study, 36% of the US workforce is now freelancing in some capacity. That means that more than one in three people in the United States could be available to help your business. With those odds, your business will be able to find, hire, and onboard a freelancer quickly.

9) Increased diversity

Freelancers create an opportunity to expand the diversity of your company. Diversity helps increase the flow of ideas and often leads to better business solutions. A team of individuals from different geographic areas, educational backgrounds, cultures, and work disciplines can significantly increase your ability to handle various projects.

10) Schedule flexibility

One great benefit of freelancers is that they’re available to be hired 24/7. That means a freelancer is there to help you resolve last-minute emergencies when you need them. For example, a website may go down on Friday evening. If you must wait until Monday morning for your full-time employee to come back to work, you could be losing out on a full weekend’s worth of potential business. A conventional employee may clock out and go home at 5 o’clock, but freelancers often have a more flexible work schedule that can revolve around a client’s needs.

11) Short-term deadlines

Freelancers are excellent options for meeting quickly approaching deadlines. They can step in if something comes up, if you need additional support on a project, or if you need to make up for an absence on your team. Freelancers are often used to dealing with project deadlines and may have the schedule flexibility to help you complete your project even at the last minute.

12) Fresh perspective

Freelancers can bring a new and fresh perspective to a project. As an outsider, they may offer a unique idea that can greatly benefit a project. This fresh perspective may be a solution to a problem or a different way of understanding your customer’s needs. Plus, freelancers aren’t trapped in your company’s historical mindset, which lets you break free from the “that’s how it’s always been done” mentality that may be holding your business back.

CRISIS & REPUTATION MANAGEMENT FOR A CONNECTED WORLD

The traditional way of managing crises is obsolete. New crisis dynamics in combination with cultural and technology-led shifts are challenging businesses. Crisis communications has never been so complex. A new way of thinking is needed. One that is data-fueled, rooted in trust, connected to culture, and integrated across business functions.

Our Connected Crisis approach is built for today’s digital-first world: data-fueled, rooted in trust, connected to culture, and integrated across business functions. Once the crisis is over, we bring our full capabilities to bear to help organizations and brands rebuild trust across stakeholders.

The Right to Offend

I am fed up with Trump , Ukraine , Mass Shootings, LGBTQ , Racism, Islam, Abortion,Transgenders issues, Being Politically Correct and Social Sensitivity.

Sugar Coated  Shit is still Shit and still taste like Shit.

If it looks like shit, smells like shit, and feels like shit you don’t have to actually eat it to know it’s shit. If it sound like shit it must be shit.

It’s All Shit

If it walks like shit, talks like shit, feels like shit, tastes like shit; looks like shit, sounds like shit; smells like shit, tells like shit, it is all shit.

Just remember. It is good to have a penis. What is not good is to try to force it in everybody’s throat.

I have the right to offend you, offend your sacred symbols, offend your sensibilities, your emotions and feelings. This is what we call “Freedom of Expression”.

Personally, when  I don’t have anything to say or facing imbecility and absurdity, I prefer not to talk. Ignoring you is a better and preferable alternative.
